In many senses, it's simply a night-time version of Most Wanted, with an appropriate balance of windy city streets and expansive freeways. Fortunately, the next-gen capabilities of the 360 have afforded Carbon a far more charming look and feel than the baby-oil-soaked Underground games, and with a much more realistic approach, a solid handling system and a nippy, generally rock-solid frame rate (generally, as in very, very occasional dips), it's always a fun environment to drive around. Building on last year's excellence, gone is the autumnal charm of Most Wanted, and back comes the glossy neon-lit urban sprawl of Underground. Neon sign of the times Need For an actual in-game screenshot! Yes!Ĭarbon certainly can't be faulted in the technical department. In a way, we're glad that pimping our ride wasn't a mandatory exercise - especially given that we found the game far easier to drive in the bumper cam view (one of four camera views, by the way). By messing around with the slider bars, you now have the ability to tailor the look of your car just so, but there's no actual in-game reward (such as extra respect, Juiced-style) to taking time to apply any of the visual upgrades that you unlock. Further tweaks are available via a slider bar if you prefer, for example, a little more drift just before entering those races, but the option of 'optimal' settings gives you an easy means to carve a safe passage to glory without getting your hands oily.Īs usual, there are visual upgrades aplenty, and EA has gone one further this year by effectively applying its Gameface technology to the cars. With three tiers of each car unlockable at key stages in the game, you get a clear signal of when to upgrade (such as clearing a territory and moving onto a different portion of the map) and doing so is as simple as jumping straight to your safe house, purchasing any available upgrades to your tyres, engine, brakes, transmission, engine and so on. But like we said, the key to cutting a swathe through the game is undoubtedly choosing the right time to upgrade your car, and applying the numerous performance upgrades.Įvidently happy with the upgrade system from last year's effort, Carbon continues to offer a simple and straightforward means of upgrading whichever Tuner, Muscle or Exotic car you've chosen to drive. It's not quite as ball-busting as it once was, but you'll still see it crop up once you're on the final set of territories and desperate to get to the endgame. Just like then, you'll find yourself a few seconds off the pace, improve with every race and continue to be trailing behind despite finishing with a better time than the AI's previous winning time. It's just a matter of how it's expressed- upgrade package tiers were absolute in MW and relative in Carbon. At the point that the game starts to offer a serious challenge, you'll also start to realise that the AI is every bit as elastic as it was back in the Underground days. So, the first upgrade a higher tier car could get would be a more expensive package than the first upgrade a cheap car good get. IIRC, in NFSMW the higher "tier" cars simply couldn't get the cheaper upgrades. (in some cases, MW gave you more incentive to upgrade to a higher tier car in the short term, since the higher tier cars would occasionally have higher performance than the lower tier cars with the upgrades you had currently unlocked)quote:Originally posted by Luca Rescigno:The tiers also allow upgrades for faster cars to be more expensive, which makes sense. So, in the long term Carbon offers more incentives to upgrade to higher tier cars than MW. This is in contrast to MW, where two cars with the same level of performance upgrades were generally competitive with each other regardless of what "tier" the car was. What he was saying is that while at your current position in the campaign they might be comparable un-upgraded to an upgraded lower tier car, once you do unlock the upgrades for them they'll be better than a lower tier car with the equivalent upgrades. IIRC, the map will also tell you what races unlock what when you have them highlighted.EDIT to add in response to your edit-quote:Right now, there is even less incentive to upgrade the car. Plus, it’s durable: Its tough plastic exterior showed no signs of wear, even after squeezing more than 200 pieces of fruit. Its larger, slat-like holes were also more efficient, draining the most juice without splattering or overflowing. Our favorite, the Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer ($23.04), was the most accommodating of the bunch and could even fit medium-size oranges with ease. Their one flaw: Some smaller models had trouble accommodating large lemons (though most fruits could be quartered into smaller pieces that fit). Press-style models quickly trapped seeds and extracted the most juice with minimal effort. While we liked a few tabletop reamers with less fussy designs, this style produced an average of 17 percent less juice than press juicers, which, in general, we preferred above all. Unfortunately, the extra parts also meant more to disassemble and clean-not ideal when you only need a few tablespoons of juice. Tabletop reamers fared somewhat better, eliminating the mess with their built-in collection bowls and seed grates. Worse, they were inefficient, collecting on average 30 percent less juice than the top-performing press style. While some testers thought these compact, knob-like tools worked quickly and were easy to clean, most lamented that they sprayed juice all over their hands and dropped seeds into the juice. We juiced at least 50 pieces of fruit with each model. The ability to efficiently juice lemons and limes was a must, but models received bonus points if they could also handle medium and large oranges. We rounded up righties and lefties with small and large hands to put the juicers through their paces. But the correct way of putting it in is to cut side down. We tried 12 models, priced from $5.99 to $23.04, in a variety of styles: countertop reamers, handheld reamers, and presses. When squeezing a lemon or lime using a squeezer, it may be easier to put it cut side up. But when we started replacing kitchen copies every couple of months because of worn or chipped enamel, we wondered if there was something more durable that we would like equally well. The Amco Houseworks Lemon Squeezer has long been our favorite manual citrus juicer. I’m happy to say that the trainers here have turned these pups around in a remarkably short time. Once we started guiltily whispering about possibly rehoming at least one of the puppies I started searching again to see if there were any other good options.Īfter reading some really excellent reviews and having owner Tra over to the house for an evaluation, we decided that we’d give Dog Training Elite a try. When they turned about 7-8 months old, our lives became extremely stressful, as both dogs, who were always a bit timid despite what we thought was sufficient socialization, developed a significant fear of strangers, reacting toward people and other dogs, and sometimes redirecting onto each other. After seeing Duke react to the choke chain we were told to use, I was pretty set on reinforcement-based training alone due to my own fears about causing more harm than good, but we were quickly becoming exhausted with two adolescent sibling pups who needed handfuls of treats all day long to listen to us. Karin will be a blessing to your family no doubt. We put our two adopted Rottweiler/American Bully littermates Duke and Daisy through a board and train program with another company when they were about 6 months old and, while they ended up with a decent grasp of basic commands, we still felt pretty helpless as owners since we received very little education on how to effectively continue the training ourselves. Always arrived on time & in a great mood. She showed my grandmother the utmost respect at a difficult time in her life. All these extras are so appreciated, but what matters the most is how she treated my grandparents and pets like her own. She always went above and beyond by bringing in the mail, newspaper, trash, recycling - if she went shopping she took all the items out of the packaging and put them neatly in the refrigerator and cupboards. I know how much work caring for the elderly can be, and she never let the stress of the job show. She was so patient with my grandmother who had dementia/Alzheimer's. I cannot express what a Godsend she was for my family (& as an added bonus she's GREAT with pets!!! She cared for my dog and my grandparents two cats, she treated them like her own and even gave them love and attention on days she wasn't "needed" for that task!) I have worked with both cats and dogs since I was a child. Hi there! I am Starr, a 24-yr-old college graduate that loves animals! I provide cat and dog sitting, check-ins, and walks. Let's discuss how I can make you comfortable while away from your pet. I respect the vulnerability of letting a "stranger" into your home and being responsible to keep your pet safe. I send lots of pictures and do what I can to make them comfy. Why me?: I am particularly in-tune to animal needs, especially when their owners are away. I am comfortable with big dogs and dogs with behavior challenges (case by case) I have rescued 4 Rottweilers in my past. What can I offer? I specialize in dog boarding, but will do home visits and I'm experienced with other animals. I have various pets: an indoor bunny, chickens, a dog, and a live-in trainer dog I help raise guide dogs for the blind and board guide dogs for fellow trainers. I have 25+ years of experience in pet sitting (starting when I was 8!) and 10+ years in dog training. My Bio: I'm a School Counselor (on hiatus) stay-at-home-mom. |
